Generate Compliant PayslipWhat Is an Itemised Payslip in Singapore?
An itemised payslip is a detailed statement that breaks down every component of an employee's salary for a specific pay period. Since 1 April 2016, Singapore's Ministry of Manpower (MOM) has made it compulsory for all employers to issue itemised pay slips to employees covered under the Employment Act. This includes full-time, part-time, temporary, and contract workers.
The goal of the itemised payslip requirement is transparency. Employees have the right to understand exactly how their salary is calculated — what they earned, what was deducted, and what they take home. Employers who fail to comply can face caution letters and administrative penalties of up to S$400 per repeated infringement.
The 12 Mandatory Components of a MOM-Compliant Payslip
Every itemised pay slip issued in Singapore must contain the following information. Our free payslip generator automatically includes all of them:
When Must You Issue the Payslip?
MOM is strict about timing. Itemised pay slips must be issued together with salary payment to the employee. If this is not possible, the payslip must be provided within three working days of payment.
In cases of termination or dismissal, the employer must issue the itemised pay slip together with any outstanding salary on the employee's last day of work. Keeping proper records is also essential — employers must retain payslip records for at least two years for both current and former employees.
Format: Hard Copy, Soft Copy, or Handwritten?
MOM accepts itemised payslips in any format: printed hard copy, emailed PDF, or even handwritten — as long as all 12 required components are present. Most modern employers prefer digital payslips because they are easier to store, search, and retrieve during audits. Our tool generates a professional PDF that you can email directly to employees or print for physical distribution.
Using a Payslip Template vs. a Generator
Many small business owners start with a spreadsheet payslip template. While templates work, they are prone to formula errors, formatting inconsistencies, and version control issues. A dedicated payslip generator eliminates these risks by handling calculations automatically, enforcing MOM-compliant formatting, and storing employee data for reuse.
Our tool functions as both a payslip template and a calculator. You get the structure of a proper Singapore payslip with the convenience of automatic math — CPF contributions, net pay, and overtime pay are all computed as you type.
